Sentient Species

Descriptions of the various sentient species encountered in the Division One series. Cover image credit: Darrell Osborn (c)2017

Alaygoon

Race from Lambda Andromeda III. Possibly an ancient colony from the Persis Federation.

Alontoran

A race of enslaved humanoids that have been genetically manipulated for millennia by the Masters. Taller than most humans, generally blind, all female, strong and shapely, have been used as cannon fodder and sex slaves. They are not born, but created. There once were males, but those were discarded by the Masters.

Aves

An avian race, purple with black crest feathers, telepathic. Homeworld not known.

Bastian

Human-sized, large bipedal felinoids of the 6 Lyncis system.

Betelgeusian arachnoid

Very large archnoids. Some legspans as large as 15 feet.

Botanoid

Plant-based race from Dryad in the Embelu system.

Bozheen

Gastropoids of the Delta Scorpii system. They are powerful short-range telepaths, and resemble giant, iridescent green snails, being about 6-8ft long and some 5-6ft high. They have antennae that serve as sensory organs, with mouths under the skirted "foot." The slug part and the shell part are two different entities; the slug part is male and the shell is female, and they have a telepathic and empathic bonding. Once they mate, they experience a constant coital coupling until death, and the shell goes everywhere the slug goes. Reproduction may occur via internal gestation, or the laying of eggs and nesting. The full cycle takes approximately 1.5 standard annums, with an additional 1.5 annums between litters. Wontwuun is not a member of the Pan-Galactic Coalition, though the system is physically located in Division Three. The Bosheen are isolationist and prefer not to associate with offworlders, save for some limited trade and the occasional mercenary such as Azeln AbdohNeléKein (Slug) and his wife Nelé.

Braxitaran

Home planet is Braxitar.

Caerarri

A race from the Caerarri system. They developed quantum chromodynamics to a fine art, and produced gluon suppressor weapons (among other tech). It is in the Division Two region, but not affiliated with the Coalition; very remote and exclusionary, and no one really knows what they look like.

Caltorian

A race of humanoid aliens with strong bones and large resonating chambers on the back of their heads, through which they speak. They vibrate when excited. The homeworld is called Caltor.

Chesharilzi

A humanoid race from Chesharil; somewhat stronger than humans, with slighly pointed ears, wider-set eyes. Slightly blue skin, and usually possessed of odd but attractive eye and hair color (purple, orange). They visited Earth in antiquity, and are thought to have been the basis for the mythical Tuatha de Dannan.

Cortian

Basically giant canaries, with a body close enough to Ke!endarian that with a feather dye job, they can pass for Ke!endarian. The homeworld Corta is in the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, which is being cannibalized by the Milky Way. It is a very poor stellar system, and the population learned piracy and slavery to survive. They are very skillful and ruthless raiders in the PGC.

Dabanoran

A very human-like race.

Deltiri

Powerful long-distance telepaths; their abilities use quantum entanglement to find the intended message recipient. They do not have the ability of precognition, though they are aware of a very few beings (non-Deltiri) who possess it. The majority have blue skin, fishlike faces with finlike ear shells, and their eyes tilt up at the outside corners when they smile. Some do present in other bright epidural colors, such as green, purple, and orange. They are tall/thin, often robed.

Delzantian

Electronics experts, short and green but otherwise humanoid; think comic strip Dilbert

Dendroid

Plant-based bipedal species.

Dorian

Race that caused a conflict in Eastern Europe; named for "Dorian Grey" in that they are very long-lived and may not age at all until the very end of their life, when it is accelerated. Humanoid, but with gray skin.

Draconan

Cassic alien type from UFO lore, from Draigon aka Emdali in Division Five; capital Slliith City; scaled in different colors (hereditary colors), 8ft tall, winged (dragons). They share Emdali with the other sentient species, Reptoids.

Edeptan

Short, red skin, yellow eyes. Live on Edeptis IV in the Edeptis system on the Outer Rim. The most famous Edeptan is the legendary healer, Doron.

Ererot

Giant butterfly-like species from Eospen in the Delta Antliae system.

Ergisol

Insectoid race which resembles nothing so much as a giant iridescent June bug to humans. Their homeworld is Ergis.

Erikian

Race upon which the movie Arquillians were loosely based, may be an offshoot of the Glu’gu’ik. Unlike the Glu’gu’ik, who are classic Grey aliens, the Erikians do not possess the ability to manipulate the quantum foam, and possess a distinct green tint to their epidermis.

Exinulan

Short, squat, muscular, dark mahogany skinned to absorb heat, nictitating membrane over eyes in daylight looks glazed, elephant feet to support against gravity, hands similar to pincers, short cylindrical heads, binocular vision, ear holes, nose holes, mouth slit Homeworld is Exinul (GJ 273b or Luyten b), the super-Earth in Luyten's Star's habitable zone (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luyten_b)

Froon

An insectoid-like species, with acid saliva, whose primary attack is spitting. They tend to aggression.

Ganotian

Strictly law-abiding beings residing in the Norma Arm, roughly parallel to the central galactic bar; they are essentially humanoid with pale blue-green skin and variations on copper-colored eyes. Most have black hair, but a few are blond to white. The Ganotians were a small star nation comprised of about 5 star systems before deciding to join the Pan-Galactic Coalition. The central system/planet is Ganotia.

Glu’gu’ik

Zeta Reticulans, Grays; Based on Va’du’sha’a, which orbits Zeta[2] Reticuli, a distant binary system.. Formerly a world empire, the Last Crown, Emperor Ma’dre’le’er, died after the F’al was removed to Earth by Clan Hou'di'ni. The government fell and was replaced by a representative republic. There is a Glu’gu’ik colony on Da'me in Division Ten. They have the ability, as a species, to manipulate the quantum foam around them. This enables them to teleport themselves and other sentients and objects around them, as well as to attack by rearranging the internal organs of the beings they attack; it is a particularly nasty death. They can also use this ability, within specific spacetime limits, to contact their dead. This ability, however, does not work through aluminum foil, and this may be the source of the urban legend of wearing "tin-foil hats."

Grendel

Semi-humanoid beings, consider mistletoe a delicacy, fond of Christmas garland flavors

Gurgev

People of Dekken, very human-like but with odd skin/hair/eye color; can vary from person to person like "races" on Earth

Haepergen

From a super-Earth in the Gliese 581 system. Their body structure is correspondingly bigger and denser than humans, though otherwise they pass for human fairly readily. They have some skill in genetic manipulation, and may have been a source of inadvertent instruction for Slug when he modified Megan McAllister and Mark Wright.

Hatterat

A large creature that tends to rampage, somewhere between Godzilla and monsters from the id. Semi-sentient, but not necessarily intelligent. Generally not really bright, and just wants to romp. (Think of the creature that wound up on Earth chasing birds from the 2nd Thor movie.)

Human

From the planet Earth originally. Earth as a whole does not know about the Pan-Galactic Coalition, but is a signatory to the Sydys Concordat and thus a member. Director Fox has been Earth's representative in the Coalition since becoming signatory to the Concordat.

Hypothenemoid

From Loterus V. 6-legged giant sentient beetles (~4’long, ~2’high, ~3.5' diameter) with prehensile antennae. Carapaces look like coffee beans, and so the planet considers coffee delectable. In Division 8.

Ka'agand

Octopoid, but with two levels of tentacles. An inhabitant of the Persis Federation in the Andromeda Galaxy.

Kaceerlon

Zuul-type ankylosaurs

Kallosian

Fungus/mushroom (Basid) type race in the Coalition. Most famous member is concert singer Ercwlff.

Kardorian

Velocirapter-like sentients from Kardor; their arms are longer than that species, and fully functional. They do have featherlike head/neck plumes in bright colors. Extremely intelligent.

Kartung

A telepathic race in the Pan-Galactic Coalition, often used as interrogators.

Ke!endarian

Avian morphology. A race of alien birds with red eyes and large crests from Ke!enda!ar. Brightly feathered (think rainbow lorikeet) with long slim hands, partly feathered, and birdlike feet. They are renowned for the fairness and impartiality of their law courts, and they have arbitrated many disputes between other species. Because of their hard beaks, the language sounds like bird song interspersed with beak clacks, represented by the ! when represented in Standard Galactic.

Kinti

With healing abilities (think Battle Cat from He-Man, except they can use their healing powers to morph very temporarily into something more humanoid which can be disguised on Earth)

Kochavi

The "sexpots of the universe." They are very knowledgeable about reproduction and lovemaking, very open about their sexuality, and very willing to couple with other entities if it is possible. They are humanoid with slight blue-purple tints to skin, hair, and eyes, but can reasonably readily appear human. They also emit powerful pheromones, and some, known as the "pheromone adept," can control and manipulate those chemicals, as well as detect them. The homeworld is known as Kochav; its capital is Reegar.

Korian

From Kor, think Orion slave girl.

Krefan

From Harriott aka Kref in the 55 Cancri system (Travis S. Taylor is a Krefan).

Krefon

From Harriott aka Kref in the 55 Cancri system. Caused a conflict in Eastern Europe. True lupines, though relatively small of stature; they are comparable in size to a German shepherd. Shares the planet with the Krefan humanoid race, though with some enmity between them. See Lupinoids. (https://pan-galactic-coalition.com/books/sentient-species/chapter/lupinoids)

Kufthurian

Somewhat larger than humanoid race of yutyrannus-like tyrannasauroids, but covered with thick feathery fluff, so they look almost cute

Kydeen

Fierce koala-like sentients; excellent warriors.

Lacertilian

These beings can see microwaves and think microwave ovens are art. Their speech sounds like beeping.

Lupinoids

Wolf-like sentients, there are two species from two different stellar systems. They are often confused.

Lupinoids

Krefons

One variety of lupinoid, from Kref, aka Harriott in the 55 Cancri system. Often confused with Tekulans, though they are smaller and more dog-like. See Krefon.

Lupinoids

Tekulans

One variety of lupinoid, from the Tekul system. Often confused with Krefons, though they are larger and more like a werewolf or dire wolf than the smaller Krefons.

M'Queran

Megophiuroids (giant brittle starfish) with a central eye on one side and central mouth on the other. From M'Quer. The M'Querans have two forms of locomotion: 1) A low scuttle, close to the ground/floor; 2) A slow, stately walk on all or most arm tips, possibly reserving two arms for manipulation.

Masters

A race of creatures that have both magical and technological superiority in their universe. They enslave other races and genetically and magically manipulate them to recreate them, then either use or sell them. They feed off both living flesh and souls.

Oord

Race whose breathable atmosphere is nothing like Earth's (they look like the man in Edvard Munch's The Scream). They come from Oor.

Photoid

Translucent, vaguely humanoid, bipedal race beings who communicate via lighting up parts of the body with different colors of bioluminescence.

Pinniped

Walrus-like beings of Ivalde, a water world in the Groombridge 34 system. They have a mining colony on Jupiter's moon Europa

Pruug

Empaths, 4 tentacle arms w/ 4 tentacle fingers, 4 legs. Inhabitants of the Persis Federation in the Andromeda Galaxy.

Reptoid

Classic reptiles of UFO lore, from Draigon aka Emdali in Division Five; capital Slliith City; think Star Trek Gorn. They share Emdali with the other sentient species, Draconans. Same genus as Draconans, but different species, shorter and squatter, dark scales, more lizard-like, no wings; 6' tall, greenish-brown scales and a flat, lizard-like face with vertical-slit pupils and baleful, bulging yellow eyes, Long torso, short thick stubby legs, long arms hanging halfway down the thighs, and the hands were possessed of only four clawed fingers—one of which was an opposable thumb.

Sapient dire beets

Bete dirus sapiens; discovered and first battled by Alpha One during Agent Omega's training flight aboard the D1 Trojan Horse. They are native to the Betanin system, planet Borscht, in the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.

Sapient dire beets

Description

Behind Alpha One, several of the red rock outcrops began to stir. One rolled over and into a more upright position. Something approximating eyes rose up on short blue-purple stems and popped open.
Abruptly what had appeared to be limp, blue-green seaweed strands draped across the boulder rose up and began waving in the air. A creaking, clacking sound came from the top of the creature. Within seconds the rest of the ‘boulders’ had moved into the same vertical position, multiple eye-stalks swiveling to look after the humans moving down the beach. As they grew more active, their color intensified and deepened, becoming more plum-hued than the brick red they had appeared only moments before.
More clacking was followed by soft ripping sounds, as thick root-like appendages were pulled from the firm-packed sand. Minutes later, at least a dozen of the creatures crept down the beach in Alpha One’s wake...
...Stalking.

~Stephanie Osborn, Division One book 5, Trojan Horse

Segmented felinoid

From Antares IV. Intelligent cats, roughly the same size as housecats, but with armadillo-like armor. To pass as housecats on Earth, they must wear fur suits.

Shrub

A semi-sentient tumbleweed from Dryad in the Embelu system. First time seen on Earth in Texas Rangers. Capable of independent movement, often use prevailing winds, storm winds to travel long distances, travel in day, bed down at night, like to be warm, will use mammals as heat sources. Often used as pets by inhabitants of that system.

Skulian

Intelligent seaworms from the Kusheer system, with psuedopod-like antennae.

Sluuite

Intelligent salamanders of Sluu, Reddish-purple, about 8" long (males bigger), can be bi-/quadripedal. Home planet is Sluu in the Nubuv (Kepler-969) system. Sluuites tend to be omnivore scavengers, so they are often on the janitorial staffs of the organizations for which they work. They tend to eat the odd tidbit here and there, and the rest of the janitorial staff cleans up what they don't eat.

Star Drakes

These are gigantic creatures capable of both space-faring intergalactic travel and consuming even stars via mass-to-energy conversion. They claim an entire galaxy as their home, or 'hoard,' and require tribute from the inhabited systems. They have a limited capability to manipulate spacetime, and while they can mate, rare are the couples who produce offspring; their home universe would be overrun if they had a human-norm reproductive rate. They are from an alternate universe, but not the same as the Alontorans, Masters, etc. Known example: Lord Surlianth Surlianthet Suspected example(s): Kukulkan/Quetzalcoatl

Tekulan

A species of lupinoid (https://pan-galactic-coalition.com/books/sentient-species/chapter/lupinoids), from the planet Tekul. Large, powerful, similar to a werewolf or dire wolf in size. Zargothian

A short, squat, dark gray, powerful race from Zargoth; they are matriarchal, and the female maintains a harem; sexually incompatible with humans, because it would kill the human; rasping voice, sensitive to vinegar (acid burns). Due to the extremely heavy, dense, thick skeletal system, there is significantly less room for a brain in the cranium than for most species. As a result, Zargothians are not the brightest bulbs in the light fixture.

Zumbirian

A race loosely resembling Giorgio Tsoukalos with orange skin, green eyes, and wild green hair. (Tsoukalos is a Zumbirian on Earth, in Division One reality.)

K'hardug

One of the few non-human races not allergic to garlic.

Celrian

Species from the planet Celro.

Andromedan

Not to be confused with Lambda Andromedans.

Any of a number of species from the Andromeda galaxy.

Rogue or rebel Andromedans from the Persis Federation are often called "scuttles".
